Meeting Recap: Launching your career in Digital Marketing

Speaking to the speakers after the meeting (That's me in the white shirt!)

Every week we have meetings with all of the interns and the clinic directors. This week we had a panel of speakers come in and talk about their experiences in breaking into the Digital Marketing industry.

Speakers:

  • Kim Brown - Duo
  • Chad Wiebesick - VP Marketing at The Ann Arbor Area Convention & Visitors Bureau
  • Jorel McCree - Denstu Aegis
  • Eric Wortman - Sports and Live Events at Google
They spoke about challenges they faced when coming into their professions, different norms in the industry,  and how to stand out from the rest of the candidates.

Automate your work day

The most successful people don't work harder, they work smarter. The speakers touched upon how automating your work day so you have time to work on the important stuff is vital. This is because you won't get caught up in non-important things and will allow you to be mindful of what is important.

Tell a story through data

Showing the board, your consumers, and other simple data won't accomplish anything. The way to do it is to tell a story through or along with the data. We are social creatures, looking at numbers won't have us have a connection to what is being shown. By showing it as a Problem ---> Solution and why the data backs up the Solution this lets the audience consume the concept efficiently.

Eric Wortman made an excellent point, What is success to your audience?
By finding this out, I will be able to have more success in my professional and personal life. Being able to cater how I present my results to a variety of people will be crucial. Some may want results shown in Black and White, others will want information given to them in other manners.

Why Social Media Influencers Make Bank

The Big Divide Between Influencers and Companies Several studies have been conducted to see how social media influencers compare to regular brands in terms of engagements on posts. NewsWhip's study done in June 2017 revealed that the metrics between the two were very different. "JetBlue averaged 2,363 engagements in June on its owned posts, while influencer posts garnered an average of 241,226 engagements"( eMarketer ).
